The Pigskins Shame Spiral is an occasional feature tracking developments related to the name of D.C.’s beloved football team.
Who: DeAngelo Hall, cornerback for the Washington Pigskins.
Change the name? “They probably should,” Hall said this morning on Fox Sports’ Keepin’ it Real with Mike Hill
Why? He didn’t elaborate, only saying that he doesn’t expect the name change to happen anytime soon.
Shame Spiral rating: SMDH.If this tepid answer was coming from almost anyone else, it wouldn’t earn more than a finger wag on the Shame Spiral scale. But Hall is a player for the team and, according to the Post, he is the first player to, even mildly, speak out against the team’s name. This could encourage his teammates to speak up, and if the president’s condemnation of the team name wasn’t enough to shake team owner Dan Snyder‘s stubbornness, maybe some rumblings within the club will do the trick. Then again: Probably not.
