Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority released a video yesterday showing a man snatching a cell phone from a woman at the Capitol South Metro station on Saturday. The woman subsequently chases after the man, falls, and then continues to chase him before the video cuts out. Police say the suspect was ultimately arrested outside the station.
The Metro Transit Police video is meant to serve as a reminder to the public to watch their electronics, according to the department’s Twitter feed.
The department has released at least two other videos of electronic theft in the past. In both of these videos, the victim chases after the suspect. In one of them, the victim, like this most recent one, trips in the pursuit. Transit police warn against chasing after the suspect.
“Also, as a reminder, it is never a good idea to chase a suspect. No property is worth the risk of getting hurt. Instead, get a good description of the suspect and be a good witness for police,” WMATA’s description of the video reads.
