Earlier this week, City Desk declared that D.C. had hit peak panda. But it turns out the mountain of panda fandom had an uncharted summit of which we were unaware.
That $6,000 VIP Bao Bao Tour? Well, technically, the National Zoo is all sold out of them. The pricey panda package is part of the National Zoo’s ZooFari fundraising event on May 15 and includes a private behind-the-scenes tour to meet the giant panda cub, 10 VI ZooFari tickets, and five valet parking passes.
The National Zoo has sold four of these packages, according to spokeswoman Devin Murphy. More people can still purchase this package, though they will no longer be able to have their Bao Bao tour on the day of the event.
There is also a $4,000 VIP Animal Tour package and a $1,400 VIP Access Package available for sale, neither of which include a tour of the panda habitat. Murphy says they’ve sold seven of the $4,000 package and 17 of the $1,400 package.
Before you become the fifth person to purchase a $6,000 golden ticket, keep this in mind: You won’t be allowed to touch the panda.
