Bike Regime: A Capitol Hill couple invented a seat that can easily attach to a Capital Bikeshare bike for their six-year-old daughter to sit on. The seat received a positive response from neighbors, but the bike-sharing program has reportedly issued them a cease-and-desist letter. -2

Boxed Out: The D.C. Council gave preliminary approval to legislation, commonly known as “Ban the Box,” which would restrict the times during the hiring process that an employer can ask about a job applicant’s criminal history. Proponents of this bill say this is necessary in decreasing unemployment and would help ex-convicts successfully return to their communities. +3
Unpleasantly Barred: Mount Pleasant lost one of its mainstay neighborhood bars with the closure of Tonic. The bar will be replaced by Goodall’s Organic Bistro, which does not sound like an affordable neighborhood hangout. -2
