The man who was killed in the Hill East apartment fire earlier this month intentionally started the fire, according to a police investigation.
The Metropolitan Police Department has ruled the death of Christopher Christofi, 46, a suicide. The fire occurred on June 4 at around 4 p.m.
After Christofi was suspected to have died in the fire on the 1600 block of Isherwood Street NE, the Washington Post ran a profile of the D.C. office manager, who was described by friends as a “kind and gentle soul” who loved his dog and BMW.
A witness of the fire says she saw Christofi and his dog standing in the doorway in flames before the building collapsed on top of them.
Christofi was the only fatality of the fire.
