Nationals Magic Number provides daily updates as the Washington Nationals try to win their division. Today’s magic number for the Nats to clinch the N.L. East: 10
What else is 10: In the history of Major League Baseball, D.C.’s teams have won just 10 playoff games. The Nats won two games in 2012, their lone playoff appearance so far, and the erstwhile Washington Senators managed to win a mere eight playoff games in their 70-plus years of existence. To put this in perspective, last year alone, the St. Louis Cardinals won nine playoff games and didn’t even win the World Series. Pain is a time-honored tradition for D.C. baseball fans. I’m not sure if that should make us feel better or worse.
What happened yesterday: With a chance to sweep the second-place Braves, the Nats instead turned out a forgettable performance in the finale of their three-game series. Still, two out of three ain’t bad.
What’s happening today: The Nats travel to New York to play the Mets at 7:10 p.m. The Braves have the day off.
