The rabbi at Kesher Israel, a modern Orthodox synagogue in Georgetown, was arrested this morning and charged with voyeurism, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed.
Barry Freundel was taken away from his home on the 30th block of O Street NW in handcuffs, as Washingtonian first reported today. Witnesses say cops left his Georgetown home with computers and other items.
Freundel has been at the synagogue since 1989, and according to the Washington Post, is one of the most respected rabbis in the region.
The synagogue did not immediately return a request for comment. Police did not release any further details on the allegations at this time.
The rabbis is expected to appear in D.C. Superior Court Wednesday, the Post reports.
