The District’s annual snow preparedness test run yielded a very real injury this year.

After the Department of Public Works and D.C. Department of Transportation completed its “Snow Team Dry Run” exercise Friday, a DDOT staff member was struck by a snow plow. A DDOT statement said the staff member was being treated for serious injuries to both legs.

“We are actively determining the circumstances of the accident,” the statement read. “As well, our focus is on the wellbeing of our injured employee, her family, and the DDOT family.”

The annual exercise is intended to get the District Snow Team reacquainted with its routes and snow equipment. On Friday, nearly 700 plow drivers navigated their routes while administrative, supervisory, and logistical support teams practiced their roles at other sites.
