District police are investigating five shooting incidents Monday night and early Tuesday morning, including one in which a gunman opened fire on a group of kids playing football on a field on the 2700 block of Naylor Road SE.
A 16-year-old, according to the Washington Post, was shot twice while he was running away from the gunman at around 6:40 p.m. He was shot in the leg and thigh and was taken to Howard University Hospital. No arrests have been made.
The Post reports that a total of five people were wounded by gunfire and none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. The shootings were concentrated in the Southeast and Northeast quadrants of the city: the 1200 block of Olivet Road NE, the 1000 block of 16th Street NE, the 100 block of Yuma Street SE, and the 1100 Block of Owen Place NE.
