D.C. is going big celebrating the life of Marion Barry, and, like all big events for politicians in town, that means street closures. The Metropolitan Police Department released the following notice today of when Pennsylvania Avenue NW and other streets will be closed for Barry-related events between Thursday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 6.

Thursday, Dec. 4: Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 12th and 14th streets NW will be closed as needed between 8 a.m. and midnight while Barry’s body lies in repose at the Wilson Building.

Friday, Dec. 5: Those same blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue will still close as needed between 6 and 9 a.m. as he continues to lie in repose at the Wilson Building. Following the viewing, there will be intermittent street closures between 9 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. for a city-wide procession which will start at the Wilson Building and end at the Temple of Praise Church at 700 Southern Ave. SE.

Saturday, Dec. 6: L Street NW between 7th and 9th streets NW will be closed from 7 to 10 a.m. for a memorial ceremony at the Convention Center. After the memorial, there will be intermittent street closures from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. along the processional route from the Convention Center to the Congressional Cemetery at 1801 E St. SE.
