A motorcyclist died after he was involved in a collision with a Metro bus on the 1300 block of Southern Avenue SE on Wednesday night, according to D.C. police and the transit agency.
Sometime before 8:17 p.m., when the Metropolitan Police Department received a call, the bus driver allegedly turned left “into the parking lot of an establishment.” The bus she was driving was “struck head on by the motorcyclist,” an MPD release states. “D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital. All life-saving efforts were performed but the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.”
MPD spokesperson Aquita Brown says a Metro bus was involved in the crash with the motorcyclist—Demetrus Keys, 31—but she couldn’t verify which route it was serving. “There were minor injuries reported of some passengers on the bus,” she adds.
Richard Jordan, a spokesperson for Metro, said the bus was running along the A2 route. The bus driver has been put on temporary leave, as is standard after crashes, he added.
