Early this morning—somewhere in the ballpark of 4 a.m., according to reports —the storefront building at 2010 P Street NW was severely damaged in a blaze that started in the basement. Tenants in the building included Alberto’s Pizza, Subway restaurant, and —most tragic of all for this writer—DJ Hut, a retailer of used and rare records and CDs, turntables, and other DJ accessories.
The shop was really targeted towards DJs, obviously, and I am not one…although DJ Hut was still a fun browse and occasionally yielded some long-out-of-print treasures for the patient music geek. Either way, it’s on general principle that my heart aches for all the vinyl and CDs that were surely lost in the blaze.
