Today, Dave McKenna reports that the trash collectors at Camden Yards have finally secured a living wage. It’s great news and only three years in the making. I should know. Full disclosure: My brother (on the left in the photo above, with “riot-folk” singer Ryan Harvey) is a founder of the United Workers Association, a union of Camden Yards workers that led the fight—first against Orioles owner Peter Angelos and the countless day-labor companies that paid below minimum wage, and then against the Stadium Authority. I’ve had to hear about the meetings, protests, and times he’s been chased by men with bats.
Now that they’ve won. There’s a huge concert featuring a bill that includes D.C.’s own Head-Roc, a bit of Wham City, and some strong Afrobeat.
