Given that Benjy Ferree‘s music often adds a touch of art-school sensibility to genteel Southern melodies it’s appropriate that the DC based singer/songwriter would make his sophomore album a concept record about Bobby Driscoll—the child star of Song of the South who tumbled from grinning Disney automaton to drugged-out Warhol scenester.

The album, Come Back To The Five And Dime, Bobby Dee Bobby Dee, will arrive February 3rd on Domino Records. Ferree recently the album track “Fear”—a gorgeous gospel-tinged ballad with ominous lyrics about killer mailmen and paranoia—to his Myspace page.
