Way back in 2000, when DC-based composer Jon Morris (then Matis) was studying at Hartt School of Music, he recorded a series of abstract guitar improvisations with fellow student Tyondai Braxton. The duo took 45-minutes of that music, pressed it to a CD-R, and dubbed it Deathslug 2000 that, for a long time at least, was only available by mail order from Metatron press.

Fast-forward about ten years. Morris now leads the Low End String quartet, which just released its debut record, “Blunt Objects,” a week or so ago. Braxton went on to help found loop-crazy prog band Battles and has a solo CD arriving on Warp next month.

But if you want to check out this early meeting of droney and noisy minds, Morris has posted the record on his blog. You can stream the whole thing for free or download it for a modest $3.
