Writer and journalist Jeannette Walls will be at Borders Baileys Crossroads tonight to read from and sign her book, Half-Broke Horses: A True Life Novel, which was released in October. Walls, whose best-selling memoir The Glass Castle came out in 2005, has now written a lightly fictionalized book about her grandmother, Lily Casey Smith.
Smith is a dynamic character who breaks horses at age six, leaves home to travel 500 miles and teach in a frontier town, learns to drive and fly a plane, and runs a ranch in Arizona with her husband, surviving flash floods and tornadoes along the way. Walls’ mother, Rose-Mary, an important figure in The Glass Castle, also makes an appearance here.
