Ancient Egypt, 1800s Illinois, and modern-day chat rooms are all taking up residence in D.C. theaters. Synetic Theater Company’s wordless version of Antony and Cleopatra brings sparks-flying fight sequences and body contortions to the classic tale, at Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Lansburgh Theatre through February 28.

If talkier plays are more your style, check out Ford’s Theatre’s current staging of The Rivalry, running through February 14. The play pits a young and awkward Abe Lincoln against the more experienced Stephen A. Douglas in their race for the Illinois state senate.

For those looking for a more current and abstract outing, look into Taffety Punk Theatre Company’s suicide.chat.room. The play combines dance and spoken word set to music by Beauty Pill‘s Chad Clark as it delves into actual excerpts from online suicide forums. The unique and startling production runs through February 13.
