The third time is something of a charm for Signature Theatre’s Sweeney Todd. Director Eric Schaeffer‘s third stab at the story of the demon barber is effective, if nothing new. Sherri L. Edelen steals the show with her take on Mrs. Lovett, nailing every emotion from infatuation to malice to regret. Ed Gero does solid work in the title role. With an excellent cast of principals, this edition of Schaeffer’s Sweeney Todd is bigger and more gory than ever—take that, Johnny Depp!
