Arena Stage has mounted a “chamber version” of The Light in the Piazza, a musical whose slender story line is less alluring than its music. While Nicholas Rodriguez brings an effortless sound and talent to the character of Fabrizio, other cast members tend towards broader strokes, sometimes over-singing in their own roles. While this version of The Light in the Piazza doesn’t bring too much freshness to the musical, it may be worth seeing if only to open your world to the music and lyrics of Adam Guettel.
