D.C.’s scrappy, slightly scuzzy Foul Swoops are apparently close observers of the international art market: Check out the song “Colossal Sized Picasso” from the band’s set at the Velvet Lounge Saturday. Is it an ode to hedge-fund managers and Russian oil titans looking for some wall power to adorn their corner offices? Maybe, or maybe not. Either way, it rocked live.
Foul Swoops, by the way, are on the new Arlington-based label Yeah Gates, also home to America Hearts, whose four-song EP I really dig, and the Cheniers, which features WaPo music critic David Malitz and Metropolitan frontman John Masters. The Cheniers have a 7-inch out soon on another local label, Windian Records.
