Welcome to the weekday edition of Freestylin’ D.C., where I’ll share some of the coolest and most interesting events posted on my site, Free in DC, each Monday afternoon.
Monday
Over at the Affinity Lab on U Street there will be a mixer and free panel discussion with artists and lawyers at the Art X Law event from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Also on U St, just across from the lab, get your house/reggae fix at the Monday night Moombathon with DJ Dave Nada at Velvet Lounge. Free, 21-plus, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Head over to BloomBars in Columbia Heights for The Garden open mic poetry event. Drew Anderson, aka Droopy the Broke Baller, is the featured poet at this week’s all-ages, dontation-based event, taking place from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
Feel like dancing? Head over to Lima Lounge at 14th & K for Salsa Night! Each Monday they host free salsa classes—beginners at 9 p.m., intermediate at 9:45 p.m. Plus, the bar’s open for ladies from 9 to 11 p.m.
Tuesday
If you work near Metro Center or can find your way to 13th and G at noon, enjoy a free lunchtime concert during the Church of the Epiphany’s Tuesday Concert Series.This week, Wen-Yin Chan performs on piano.
Join the Washington City Paper at Ping Pong Dim Sum in Chinatown for happy hour and a chance to win free tickets to Cirque du Soleil’s OVO from 6 to 9 p.m. Arrive on the early side if you want a chance to win!
Enjoy free indoor films at the Renaissance Dupont Circle Hotel, from 7 to 10 p.m.. Tonight’s films, sponsored by the Capital Irish Film Festival, include Strange Days Are These and Whatever Turns You On.
Support the American Diabetes Association and get healthy at the rooftop party at The Liaison Capitol Hill Hotel. The donation-based event, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., will feature music, workout demos, and free hors d’oeuvres from Art and Soul, the restaurant of celebrity chef Art Smith, who lost 85 lbs. following his own scare with diabetes.
Wednesday
Meet the new leadership of the Social Media Club-DC at an informal happy hour at Clydes in Chinatown starting at 6:30 p.m.
Enjoy a free wine tasting every Wednesday and Friday at Zola Wine & Kitchen in Penn Quarter at 9th & E, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Don’t forget to bring your mat when you head over to free Yoga in the Park at Dupont Circle, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
