With its liquor license revoked, shows cancelled through at least Nov. 3 and kinks still being worked out at The Red Palace, Arts Editor Jonathan L. Fischer examines whether DC9 is finished in the wake of the death last week of Ali Ahmed Mohammed.
So, have you heard The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is taping shows next week at Sidney Harman Hall ahead of Ironicpalooza or whatever the big Stewart/Colbert mashup on Oct. 30 is called? Well, apparently Stewart landed some big guests, notably President Obama, who will appear on The Daily Show next Wednesday. Ed Henry of CNN tweeted it first, TBD’s Ryan Kearney reports, but if it’s topping Mike Allen‘s Playbook this morning, I guess it’s confirmed.
Kearney, also TBD’s Chief Robot Correspondent, figured out the super-secret plot of Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Apparently some shit blows up (again), the Decepticons get revived (again) and the fate of the world rests in the hands of coffee-thrower and Megan Fox new girl. How did Kearney figure all this out? This is what happens when someone posts the summary of the tie-in novel on Amazon nine months before the movie comes out.
I had a brief interest in Ben Folds back in middle school. Hell, he headlined (with Beck) the first concert I ever went to at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Upstate New York. Last night Folds is promoted his new album Lonely Avenue written with Nick Hornby at Sixth and I Historic Synagogue.
Another cool thing you should check out tonight? Buster Keaton‘s The Cameraman, a classic tale of how to get ahead in photojournalism, screens for free at the National Portrait Gallery.
In WaPo love and hate today: Peter Marks loves the Folger Theatre‘s new production of Henry VIII. We should then assume there was no audience-touching. Michael Lindgren says James Franco‘s debut anthology of short fiction is a “thin, hackneyed affair.”
Oh, about the title of this post. The New York Yankees lost again last night and are now teetering on the brink of elimination. So if you follow me on Twitter, be forewarned that it might get a little emotional today.
Correction: The performance by Ben Folds and Nick Hornby at Sixth and I Historic Synagogue was last night, not tonight.
