You don’t need to know about Roky Erickson‘s prototypical psych-rock efforts or his troubled back story to appreciate the triumph that is his latest record, True Love Cast Out All Evil. Erickson’s ’60s band, The 13th Floor Elevators,basically deserves credit for all the the psych-rock/freak-psych/psych-folk made by lesser minds that you’ve spent the last few years sweating. Though the name FIREWIND is definitely ridiculous, the Greek Metal band is actually kind of delightful and this video is a must see. They’ll be bringing the heat and shred to the nth power with Powerglove and The Absence. 6:30 p.m. $20/$23 door. Jaxx

“Northern VA and The Rise of Rock and Roll: A Discussion Panel” with Bud Becker, Teddy Bonar, Mike Schreibman, and Michael Oberman. Those few names may not mean much to you, which is exactly why you should take a break from actual concertgoing and learn a thing or two. If you’re fans of the music or if you were part of shaping the movement in the ’60s and ’70s, this panel provides a chance to play a game of remember-when. Documentary filmmaker Jeff Krulik (Heavy Metal Parking Lot and Led Zeppelin Played Here) will serve as panel host. Special guest Durwood Settles, who brought Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and The Doors to D.C., will also make an appearance. Free. 3-5 p.m. Artisphere.

Positive Force D.C.’s punk rock flea market would not be complete without a performance or three. True Womanhood, Tereu Tereu, and Imperial China have hitched themselves to the good time and to the good cause—-the flea market doubles as a clothing drive to benefit for Martha’s Table.
