We know D.C. Get our free newsletter to stay in the know.

You’ll learn more about her in next week’s One Track Mind column, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you to catch D.C.’s Painted Face tonight at U Street Music Hall, where’s she opening for another recent One Track Mind subject, Alvin Risk. Oh yeah, also: They’re siblings and collaborators. For Painted Face, Allie Alvarado provides the songs and the vox, while her bro crafts pulsing, fantasty-epic beats. The best argument for your attendance is “Undreamt,” an acknowledged Kate Bush homage with laser-beam bursts and witchy, dreamscapey imagery. “It’s about running through maybe a dream that’s not super pleasant,” Alvarado told me this week, “but coming out and still feeling like you’re still you and you’re still strong.” RiYL: Bat for Lashes, The NeverEnding Story.

The show’s cheap and early: $5, 7 p.m.
