Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Christylez Bacon is a mainstay around these parts, and tonight he’ll be singing for a good cause alongside some very expensive water bottles. Confused? Keep reading.
Bacon performs tonight at Busboys & Poets along with WPGC’s Justine Love, who will host, and keynote speaker professor Greg Carr, of Howard University’s African-American Studies department. The event is a fundraiser for Dreaming Out Loud, a two-year-old arts organization that works with youth in Wards 7 and 8.
At the event, Busboys will screen a film on the organization’s impact. The documentary follows 72 youth participants as they worked to preserve D.C. spaces like the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens this summer.
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. A $15 ticket covers food and the screening; $30 gets you a T-shirt to boot; $50 snags all that plus a water bottle.
