Here’s the deal: Music just sounds better in the snow. We learned that last year, when during the snowpocalypse a handful of bands played ad hoc sets on Washington City Paper‘s parking deck. We called it the Snow Day Sessions, and with yesterday’s snowfall, it’s back.
For the first installment of winter ’10-’11, Ryan McLaughlin of local indie-folkers Typefighter stopped by our office with two songs in tow—-new cuts from the band’s forthcoming record. He says that following some lineup changes, his band is a little more rock-oriented, and less orchestral and folky, than it was on its 2009 EP. Even so, and despite the chill, the tentatively titled “Nimbus Cloud” and “1990” sounded pretty good in acoustic form.
