Only two shopping days to go!

On TBD, Maura Judkis has another thorough analysis of the ongoing fracas over the National Portrait Gallery’s “Hide/Seek” exhibit including a rundown of a Monday discussion on the matter at the JCC. The latest:

  • Co-curator Jonathan Katz still objects to Canadian artist AA Bronson‘s desire to have one of his pieces removed from the gallery.
  • Katz, who wants to see “more scholarship in queer art” is also receiving a rash of anti-Semitic hate mail from NPG detractors.
  • And the ongoing silence from Smithsonian Secretary Wayne Clough is as deafening to the “Hide/Seek” curators as it is to the rest of us.

Back home, Nathan Lerner talks to Coen Brothers location manager Tyson Bidner about his latest work on True Grit, which features many spectacular locations. And if you haven’t seen it yet, what the hell are you waiting for? It’s already been in theaters for a full 24 hours!

Also on this blog yesterday, Mike Riggs remembers his favorite interviews of 2010, including one with his (presumed) comedy idol Gallagher.

On TBD, Sarah Godfrey looks at Trey Songzvisit to Fredrick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, Md., where  the R&B singer served as “principal for a day.” Students were brought to tears, a lot of love was shown (appropriately!), and area educators picked up a few style tips, such as wearing a scarf indoors. My own views on pop stars as educators are well-known. Fortunately Godfrey agrees.

In Post Politics, Philip Rucker and Paul Kane report in their what-will-she-do-next piece on outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that the oft-vilified California Democrat is looking to none other than Steven Spielberg to massage her image as she loses her Congressional majority.

And Click Track’s Allison Stewart lists five things that went horribly, horribly wrong in music this year. Spoiler Alert: Yes, there is more Kanye West criticism.

Finally, I’m in Wilmington, N.C. this week. So I checked out the arts section of the local Star-News. Today some old guy says the recently deceased Blake Edwards isn’t get enough credit. I guess Google News’ more than 1500 results on the guy isn’t enough.
