Good morning, D.C.!
Did you get your free pancakes this morning? If not, make like then-Mayor Adrian Fenty and get yourself to Columbia Heights or Congress Heights and eat some damn pancakes (also, donate to leukemia research). In actual food-cum-entertainment news, Sticky Fingers, everyone’s favorite vegan bakery, will compete on TLC’s Cupcake Wars. Yeah, so not only is the cupcake-as-food trend not dead, neither is the cupcake-as-reality-TV-fodder trend. Who’s next—Cakelove? Red Velvet? Sigh.
On TBD, there’s an Oscars vs. Golden Globes smackdown and koverage of The Wrath of Khalmet, the second installment of Washington Shakespeare Company’s BBC-beloved Klingon alteration of The Bard himself. Oh, and here are the Helen Hayes nominations, if you’re interested.
The Sweetlife Festival, held last year in a Dupont Circle parking lot adjacent to a, well, Sweetgreen location has upgraded to Merriweather Post Pavilion, which is distinctly not adjacent to a Sweetgreen location. If The Strokes are headlining, does that make it OK?
Here on Arts Desk, we fare assess WaPo’s Oscar jetsetting and hear a chronicle of flying instruments from our Bruise Cruise ambassadors (pretty punk rock, dude), who have since returned home from their excellent adventure on the high seas.
Enjoy your Tuesday!
