The Cassettes—-your favorite Northern Virginia steam-punk band—-are back. Well, they’re about to be. The group’s been on hiatus since 2008, but frontman Shelby Cinca told Arts Desk last summer that he and his bandmates had a Thanksgiving recording session in the works. Seems it was a success, as the group is releasing its first 7-inch in some time on April 18 on Flannel Gurl Records, and playing a string of dates. They’ll celebrate the new release April 28 at Iota.
But first: They’ve posted their 2007 album ‘Neath the Pale Moon on bandcamp, and you can pay what you want for it—-including nothing. Not a lot of bands can pull off theremin solos, and ‘Neath the Pale Moon nails several. Recommended listening.
