LOVE Stinks: Earlier this week, massive sculptures spelling out “LOVE” appeared in Dupont Circle—-part of, DCist reveals, a Virginia tourism campaign. 1) Insert Robert Indiana joke here; 2) the Dupont LOVE installation is an even bigger eyesore than those warped heart sculptures promoting Colombia tourism in 2009.
Royal Remix: Calling it here—-Moombahton has jumped the shark. The D.C.-invented mid-tempo microgenre generates what seems like dozens of tracks and remixes each week, but this is the first, I’m fairly sure, dedicated to Kate Middleton. For your consideration: “Kate Middle-ton.”
Free Packard: Arts Post interviews Geoff Packard, who describes his title character in the world-premiere musical Liberty Smith at Ford’s Theatre as, essentially, a very patriotic Candide. But! Packard played that role recently, too, on a Washington stage. By the way, this is what passes for arts news this morning, because I refuse to aggregate any news about Kegasus.
Today on Arts Desk: Thinking hard about the WPA’s experimental film series, and Far Out vs. Hot Dang.
