Perhaps you’re considering the placement of geographically inspired ink on your body—because you love D.C.,  because you think the city’s flag looks cool, because you’re punk (or because you aren’t), or maybe just because you’ve got nothing better to do this evening.

The inaugural “D.C. Flag Tattoo Day: Flag Day in the Flesh” event will take place tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. in Dupont Circle, to “encourage a large gathering of people with DC Flag tattoo’s and those that support them as a way to get under the skin of America and bring attention to DC’s lack of rights in Congress.”

Since the only thing with a longer lifespan than a tattoo will likely be D.C.’s lack of voting rights, it’s best to choose a design wisely. Using a totally objective and scientific metric, we’ve collected some less-than-stellar examples of what can be done with the District’s iconic flag.
