“We’re not sure who all of you are,” said Allo Darlin‘s Elizabeth Morris at the start of the group’s Black Cat Backstage show last night, “as the last time we were here, I think our audience had six people in it. So we’d like to thank you all for coming.” It’s great that ears are finding their way to the charming sounds of Allo Darlin’. The cozy confines of the Backstage made for the perfect place for this English band’s lovely melodies, tight song constructions, and witty lyrics to worm their way into the heart of the crowd’s uninitiated. Bands who make music in the key of twee can sometimes be great on record but underwhelming live. Happily, Allo Darlin’ are great both ways.
