Global Recession, The Rap: Remy, the guy who brought us “Arlington: The Rap,” has got more important shit to mock, courtesy of Reason.tv. “Raise the Debt Ceiling” is the third in a series of collaborations between the comedian (real name Remy Munasifi) and the libertarian magazine. Sarah Godfrey at TBD is impressed: “Munasifi’s rap skills are put to the test as he is forced to work ‘stimulus,’ ‘Medicare,’ ‘unsustainable’ and ‘quantitative statutory budget restraints’ into his rhymes.”
Steel is Real: To the mother-daughter duo that stars in Keegan Theatre’s production of Steel Magnolias, the play hits close to home, says Jane Horwitz. Robert Harling’s work, which revolves around a Louisiana beauty salon in the ’80s, depicts the suffering of a mother, M’Lynn, whose diabetic daughter dies after becoming pregnant. Sheri Herren, who portrays M’Lynn, lost her mother in early May. Some scenes were been difficult for Herren to rehearse, particularly a final scene in which M’Lynn delivers a painful, grief-stricken speech. It was “very difficult to do that last scene, even reading it. I couldn’t get through it,” she says.
