Volta Bureau Deserved More: We Love DC talks to Volta Bureau, the self-proclaimed “band of producers/musicians” who put out mostly electronic music, and play mostly at U Street Music Hall. On opening for Thievery Corporation: “It was definitely a huge crowd. We didn’t really get to dj as long as we usually do, but people seemed to dig what we were playing.”
Regents’ Drummer Has Done Many Important Things: DCist talks to drummer Jason Hamacher of Regents (ex-Frodus). Other Hamacher gigs include massage therapy and photography. In response to DCist’s inquiry (“I didn’t realize that you were also a photographer), he says, “Really? I’ve been working in the Middle East for the past six years in Syria. This is heavy duty stuff. I recorded the world’s oldest Christian music for the first time and I have a CD coming out with the Smithsonian. I have a book coming out about the city of Aleppo, Syria and I work for a museum in New York. I’ve done work on Syria for Yale Divinity. It’s like I’m a full time photographer and a full time massage therapist but obviously they don’t overlap.”
