Bad news for anybody who’s hankering for Hollywood classics plus a side of fries—the American City Diner in Chevy Chase won’t be screening movies until the springtime.
(For the uninitiated: The diner, in a mission to hem as anachronistically as possible, screens old classics on its outdoor deck while customers eat. And, disclosure: I’ve gone. Often.)
While its website is thin on explanations, a woman who answered a call to the restaurant’s phone number this morning had some details. “It’s too cold outside on the deck right now,” she said. “We used to have heaters, but we don’t have them anymore.”
It’s unclear what happened to the space heaters, or why they weren’t replaced. Until it gets warmer, though, it looks like American City Diner’s quirky dinner theater will be on intermission.
