The Onion is ending print distribution in the D.C. area, BuzzFeed reports. Was it them, or is it us? By which I mean: Was the problem local ads sales? Or circulation? Or does D.C. just not appreciate funny?
OK, it was probably one of the first two. “The business model we had set up in these places didn’t wield the results we were looking for, which was sustainability,” Onion spokeswoman Anne Finn told BuzzFeed. The satirical newspaper also ceased distribution in Philadelphia.
Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve picked up a copy in D.C. since April 2010, when the Onion dropped its local AV Club supplement. That ish was great.
