There’s a lot riding on Fat Trel‘s Nightmare on E St. “Stakes are very high,” Trel told Washington City Paper contributor Ramon Ramirez for a recent cover story. “Oh man, where do I start? I just took my first trip to California. I’m meeting with Atlantic Records and recording with famous producers…I want to get my mom out of her house. We’re ready to take it to the next level with this music that’s wrapped around the present.” In less than two years, Trel has gone from obscurity to the top of the local rap game, thanks to a deep, confident flow; an eclectic taste for beats that makes room for lowbrow trap music, confessional ballads, and hipster-baiting oddities; and a raw, compelling unfiltered persona. Nightmare features guest appearances from The Slutty Boyz, Meatchi, Tabi Bonney, Raheem DeVaughn, and more.
