Three of the best indie-rock bands in D.C.—-literary art-poppers The Caribbean, genre-tweaking mope-rockers Deleted Scenes, and slowcore noodlers Cigarette—-are sharing a bill tonight at Comet Ping Pong, and as luck would have it, one of those groups recently remixed another. The Caribbean’s take on Deleted Scenes’ 2011 single “Bedbedbedbedbed” is lulling and deconstructionist: The Caribbean’s Matt Byars and Michael Kentoff first set the mood with some gurgling atmospherics before pieces of the original song—-the martial drum beat, the soothing keyboard strokes, Dan Scheuerman‘s cooing vocals—-enter one by one. They never quite reach a critical mass; the remix stays unbusy, at least until that percussion builds to a crackly, beautiful assault.
Listen and download below. The show begins at 10 p.m. at Comet Ping Pong, 5037 Connecticut Ave. $10.
