This “Lollipop” single from D.C.’s Kingpen Slim and DJ J Buttah rolls up like the Kool-Aid Man with a boner: It basically takes the “Hard Knock Life” template (peppy, old-fashioned vocal hook; slow head-nodder beat) and applies it to “celebrating the acquisition of fellatio” instead of “documenting economic achievement.” J Buttah’s sample is The Chordettes‘ late-’50s hit “Lollipop,” which probably freaked out a preacher or two in its day. Anyway, if Slim’s track isn’t a huge radio hit by the end of the summer, people are stupid. (Ten bucks says he was doing pullups and pushups before the video shoot started, to get his guns right for the camera. Respect.)
