You don’t see the word “unity” being kicked around among DMV rappers these days—-not like a few years ago, anyway, when some of the scene’s most notable names gathered in front of the Lincoln Theatre for a photo shoot. Local producer Jamil Young is trying to turn things around. Released Friday, his “United We Stand” is a “We Are The World“-inspired collaboration featuring rappers 30/30, Garvey The Chosen One, Uno Boss, Boobe, Anwan “Big G” Glover, and Mardi Gra, who bring some gritty edge to balance Young’s vocal hook. The video itself also has a few notable cameos, namely Mambo Sauce frontman Black Boo and freestyle portraitist Demont “Peekaso” Pinder.
