Sweden’s Refused is gigging again, 14 years after putting out a record so slept on that Pitchfork neglected to review it in 1998, but handed down a 9.4 rating for its 2010 reissue. The Shape of Punk to Come is what makes a Refused reunion show so exciting: It’s a massively influential work that hasn’t been properly fleshed out live. The fiery anarchists flamed out months after its release; Harrisonburg, Va., was the site of their final battle in 1998, and the cops shut down that show after four songs. Nerds remember Explosions in the Sky’s perfect score for Friday Night Lights, but the catharsis of the Texas 5A state-title throwdown was forged from Refused’s “New Noise.” It’s game time.
