Among many attractions, the third annual D.C. Africa Festival includes an “Afropolitan Fashion Show.” Bright ankara cloth is all the rage, but don’t sleep on the muted beauty of mud cloth. Top Chef season 2 contestant Emily Sprissler opens her Glover Park gastropub Mayfair & Pine today. Sprissler will serve as executive chef alongside her husband Jason Cote, the chef de cuisine. One the menu: British classics like fish and chips and shepherd’s pie as well as seafood offerings like ciopinno to pay homage to her former home of San Francisco. The restaurant will also cater to kids with made-from-scratch chicken strips, grilled cheese, and more. (Sprissler and Cote have an almost-four-year-old.) Also worth noting is the drink menu, which lists beers and wines by the number of miles between their point of origin and the restaurant. Mayfair & Pine, 2218 Wisconsin Ave. NW. (202) 333-2090. mayfairandpine.com. (Stephanie Haven)
