On his recent album, the EARN, the Suitland, Md., native chastises monetary excess without belaboring the point; instead, he’s content with his existence—-a comfortable home, a few dollars in his pocket, his unwavering hustle.
Released today, “Dreams” and “Prior Days” show both sides of the Diamond District MC. The former, which he produced, is an atmospheric love ballad featuring singer Danedra Rowell. The latter finds yU doing what he does best; he spits middle-class rhymes over a captivating instrumental: “Now on my way out, I said my last goodbyes/By my coworker’s face, you thought my ass had died/Then somebody asked me how would I survive/I said ‘The same way I did before I had this job.'”
