If every generation gets the quasi-rock star it deserves, Dave Hill is truly a man of his time. With his first short story collection, Tasteful Nudes: …and Other Misguided Attempts at Personal Growth and Validation, the comedian, performer, and writer amusingly details his life’s circuitous trajectory, which has included short-lived stints at the legendarily depraved Chelsea Hotel and as a New York City pedicab driver. Tonight, at an event presented by Politics & Prose, Hill is scheduled to read passages from his book and perhaps play a song or two. Todd Thrasher, the cocktail master behind Alexandria speakeasy PX debuted a new rock ‘n roll-themed bar called TNT last week inside Eamonn’s on Columbia Pike. The drink menu is split between “live” (Thrasher’s own creations, which are named after his favorite rock tunes) and “road trip” (libations from bartender friends across the country). So far, the most popular cocktail is “Thymes Like These,” an ode to a Foo Fighters song with Citadelle gin, Cocchi Americano, thyme lime mixture and kaffir bitters. (Read more about the drinks on the Young & Hungry blog.) After you drink too much, you can order the “hangover chips” with hot curry sauce and a fried egg off the menu at Eamonn’s. TNT, 2431 Columbia Pike, Arlington. (703) 920-0315. (Jessica Sidman)

Signature Theatre is calling its new variety show Summer Hummer “unlike anything the theater community has ever done.” It’s a benefit for the Taking Care of Our Own initiative—-which helps local artists struggling with things like medical bills—-but it’s also a racy burlesque show that will very likely show a lot of skin. 7 p.m. at Signature Theatre, 4200 Campbell Ave., Arlington. $25.
