Fresh off the heels of Mayor Vince Gray‘s announcement of a Chuck Brown memorial in Langdon Park, The Howard Theatre has announced a new series, “Wind Me Up, Chuck! Mondays.” The regular concerts—-they’re calling them “endearing legacy” shows—-will feature members of The Chuck Brown Band alongside musicians who inspired or were inspired by the godfather of go-go.
George Clinton plays the first Monday concert on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. He’ll share the stage with players D Floyd, Scooby, Sweet Cherie, Kenny “Kwickfoot” Gross, Mighty Mo Hagans, Karlston “Ice” Ross, Marcus Young, Greg Boyer, Bryan Mills, Brad Clements, and Brown’s daughter KK.
Details about future Monday concerts are forthcoming. Currently, Morbid Angel is scheduled to headline the club Monday, Sept. 24, so we can expect either a later date for the next “Wind Me Up” concert, or a totally excellent go-go rendition of Altars of Madness in its entirety.
