Continuing City Paper tradition, today we’re going to start rolling out short reviews of every single film showing in this year’s (ninth annual!) D.C. Shorts Film Festival. We’ll post a chunk of reviews every day through Friday, giving you plenty of time to see the shorts before they wrap up Sept. 16.

The festival begins Thursday at E Street Cinema and the U.S. Navy Memorial. What’s on tap? Well, a handful of films with big names, for one: Like Friend Request Pending, starring Dame Judi Dench as a cheeky online dater, and The Carrier, which features both Rita Wilson and Anna Paquin. Elsewhere, Gérard Depardieu shows up to play a grieving winemaker. But lovers of the strange won’t be disappointed, either—-the festival’s got stacks of weird and experimental stuff on the slate, too.

Check out the complete schedule on the D.C. Shorts website, consider attending a D.C. Shorts party this weekend, and check your RSS reader for our reviews, which are coming so, so soon.
