David Byrne doesn’t box himself in: His work with The Talking Heads was foundational to art rock and post punk; he composed music for choreographer Twyla Tharp and dance company Ultima Vez; he started Luaka Bop, a label dedicated to music from across the globe; he’s made visual art; he’s written books, most recently How Music Works (which he discusses tonight at the Natural History Museum); and he’s designed bike racks for New York City. And now, he can add “played a sold-out show at the Strathmore Music Hall with St. Vincent” to that list.
Recently, he collaborated with the indie-rock princess to create a mixture of rock and brass-band grooves called Love This Giant. The duo brought their act to a packed Strathmore Music Center last night, complete with a brass band in tow.
