John Murph, a D.C.-based journalist and former Washington City Paper contributor, knows his music.
He’s turned out innumerable CD and concert reviews, liner notes, and promotional material that requires him to do his homework. The encyclopedic knowledge he’s gained in the process also makes him one hell of a DJ—-a role he’s been rehearsing to great success locally and internationally.
The stuff he spins Tuesdays at Tap & Parlour—-the bar and grill on the ground-floor level of Bohemian Caverns and Liv—-is not the generic dance music you hear at Adams Morgan clubs, however: Murph favors jazz and soul, and he’s got a fascinating ear for both. What better forum for such an ear than U Street NW?
At tonight’s edition of Bonus Beats, admission is free, and Belgian beers are half off. 9 p.m. at Tap and Parlour, 2001 11th St. NW.
