HO HO WHO: Cult grindcore favorite Agoraphobic Nosebleed was founded by Pig Destroyer guitarist Scott Hull in Springfield, Mass., back in 1994. The band’s new “Merry Chrystmeth” is a one-sided holiday flexi-disc packaged with the January 2013 issue of popular U.S. metal magazine Decibel.

FROZEN CORPSE STUFFED WITH DOPE: This isn’t Agoraphobic Nosebleed’s first wintertime rodeo: Last year the group made a holiday-themed flexi for Decibel called A Joyful Noise. The 7-inch runs just a hair longer than four minutes, and ANb use that time wisely, packing crude twists on cherished seasonal cliches and wry jabs at metal phenomena (Magrudergrind’s Crusher, anyone?) into 11 abrasive grind cuts.

WINTER DRUG WONDERLAND: Whereas A Joyful Noise sounds like a depraved, scatterbrained, and comedic dig at, well, everything, “Merry Chrystmeth” is a fluid, focused, and brutal look at the nadir of a lifelong user during Christmastime. There are plenty of crass spins on hackneyed holiday imagery delivered in grisly and guttural vocals, rapid-fire riffs, and punishing programmed drum sequences, all of which emboldens the sad and desperate tale.

CHEER FACTOR: 0/10—-unless soul-crushing songs about lifeless meth-addicts makes you merry.
