Two weeks ago, Reston, Va., band RDGLDGRN released “Million Fans,” a hard-charging track with gritty drums and edgy guitar chords. It was the band’s first single since 2011’s “I Love Lamp,” which blended pounding go-go percussion with lighthearted Caribbean notes.
The single was infectious enough, though it sounded a lot like the RDGLDGRN members’ old band, The Five One. But the song caught the ear of fellow Virginia native Dave Grohl, who received a version of the song from Fairfax Recordings label head Kevin Augunas. Grohl agreed to drum on “Lamp,” then contributed percussion on the band’s entire album, out this summer. RDGLDGRN will release four of its songs on an EP due out Feb. 12.
Rolling Stone premiered the new version of “I Love Lamp” this morning. Listen to it over there.
